Full Life Community began with one person, its founder, Maria Ann Sumual. Her first members were married and unmarried mothers living as unemployed scavengers and beggars in the slums of Jakarta. She had been serving them as coordinator of Yayasan Emmanuel´s food rescue program. On her own time and expense, she began sharing her knowledge and skills with the first few mothers who expressed a will to strive for a better life, i.e. not having to depend eternally on donated food.
Today, these first few members are organizers and educators in the program that helps improve the quality of life for them and others like them. In this process, there have been temporary and long term external volunteers.
